The deputy head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Aleksey Chepa, commented on the words of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, that the country’s accession to the European Union had buried the “imperial project” of Russia.
The deputy noted that Ukraine will join the EU or not – is still unknown. “She is not expected there, as well as in NATO, because you have to pay for all this. In order to be a member of the European Union, it is necessary to meet certain standards, and Kiev is not ready for it yet, ”the site RT gives his words.
Chepa believes that today Zelensky, who has received such great confidence of the Ukrainian people, is still too early to make certain statements, because he has not yet fully understood the economic and political realities.
“Many of the populist statements inherent in the election campaign are no longer valid today,” the legislator stated.
According to him, the Ukrainian leadership, in striving to join the European Union, constantly indulging and playing up to the Europeans, led the country to very serious consequences, so Zelensky must figure out how to get out of this situation.
Earlier, both in the European Union and in NATO, it was repeatedly noted that Ukraine could not count on a quick accession to the associations.
