Alexey Chepa: “The US test of the rocket, previously banned by the INF Treaty, will exacerbate conflicts in the world”

Washington’s test of a missile previously banned by the INF Treaty will exacerbate conflict situations in the world. Such an opinion in an interview with “Duma TV” was expressed by Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, deputy from the “Fair Russia” faction Alexei Chepa.

According to him, the US attempts to draw Russia into an arms race will not be crowned with success, since the parties follow different strategies.

“The arms race is going on in different ways. We are following new technologies and developing new systems, the Americans are moving towards an increase in the number of weapons and missile defense systems they have, ”Chep said.

The parliamentarian also recalled: Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a message to the Federal Assembly, made a statement that the Russian Federation would take retaliatory actions, including in cases of preparing short-range and medium-range missiles for launch.

“Whether it will exacerbate conflict situations in the world is natural. Because this is primarily an attempt to move the theater of operations to Europe, but in his message President Vladimir Putin made a very important statement: we will consider the danger not only from potential missile launches, but also from the preparation of these conflicts. That is, both the United States and other countries are at risk of response, ”said Chepa.

Earlier, the Associated Press reported that the US Department of Defense plans to conduct tests of a cruise missile of a type that was previously prohibited by the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles in August 2019.

In February, Washington began the exit procedure from the INF Treaty, accusing Moscow of failing to comply with the document’s points due to the Russian 9M729 missile, the flight range of which allegedly exceeds the norms allowed by agreement. Later, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree suspending the implementation of the INF.
