Alexey Chepa: “The withdrawal of Russia from the Council of Europe is not beneficial to anyone, because our country is a full member of the European community”

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Alexey Chepa, in an interview with RT, commented on the statement of French President Emmanuel Macron that the country opposes Russia’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe, such a move could have a negative impact on everyone who sees this organization as a means of protecting their rights.

“Macron, of course, is absolutely right. Russia’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe is not beneficial to anyone, because our country is a full member of the European community. Not just like that, the French leader made a similar statement after meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. He made it clear that the Russophobic position that the old Kiev authorities adhered to, opposing the participation of Russia, is not welcome today,” said Chepa.

The deputy also noted that this statement is a very important premise to the fact that “Ukraine should seek dialogue with Russia.”

Earlier, Macron at a press conference following a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that France opposes Russia’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe, such a move could have a negative impact on anyone who sees this organization as a means of protecting their rights.
