Member of the International Affairs Committee Anton Morozov:
“Japan announced another senseless protest because of the usual trip of Russian officials to the Kuril Islands. You can shake the air as much as you want, and they will continue to do so, at least until the end of the term of office of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, for whom the insane idea of returning the islands has become a programmatic one. But the Japanese themselves probably already understand that such demarches have no prospects. Territorial claims are unacceptable, one should move to a more constructive negotiation tactics and build bilateral relations on a mutually beneficial and mutually respectful basis.
The only solution to the problem of a peace treaty with Japan is to abandon territorial claims, conclude a peace treaty without any reservations and preconditions, and develop bilateral relations, including social and economic cooperation, in a normal manner.”
