The new German Chancellor should be focused primarily on the interests of European states. Member of the Committee on International Affairs Anton Morozov commented on the refusal of the current German Chancellor Angela Merkel to nominate for the post in 2021.
“She has contributed both positive and negative. So far, nothing can be attributed to her in terms of improving relations with Russia. She should be replaced by a more diplomatic politician who will be more focused on the interests of European states”, said Anton Morozov.
The deputy stressed that Russia is ready to work with any politician who will be elected as the new chancellor of Germany.
In addition, the parliamentarian spoke about the upcoming meeting of the leaders of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, to be held on November 11 in Paris. Morozov noted that the presidents, first of all, should discuss issues related to the situation in the Middle East and the sphere of influence inside the international political space.
“We, from the parliamentary angle, are very positive about any bilateral cooperation between Russia and the United States, especially at the highest level. If this meeting takes place, I am sure that the issues of a rather broad political spectrum that are relevant to the international agenda will be discussed. First of all, these are issues of the Middle East settlement, issues relating to the division of spheres of influence and, in general, issues of war and peace, Morozov said.
The parliamentarian also expressed hope that the upcoming meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will help ease tensions between the two states.
