Dmitry Novikov commented on the statement of the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany on dialogue with Russia

Germany is seriously inscribed in the strategy of Euro-Atlantic solidarity, while being closely linked to Russia and trying to demonstrate the independence of its foreign policy course. This was announced to RT by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Novikov, commenting on the words of German Chancellor Angela Merkel that Berlin needs to remain in dialogue with Moscow.

Earlier, Merkel noted that Germany’s policy towards Russia should not change. She recalled that Berlin has always been in favor of staying in dialogue with Moscow, since on many topics it is “an important strategic partner”.

“On the one hand, Germany is seriously inscribed in the strategy of Euro-Atlantic solidarity. On the other hand, the FRG is trying to play the role of an independent political player on the European stage and demonstrates independence from the course that the United States is promoting in Europe and other parts of the world, ”Novikov stated.

First of all, according to the deputy, Germany “is closely linked with Russia through the supply of energy resources,” and in this area, the United States cannot offer anything in return.

“All that the US can offer as arguments for replacing Russian gas with gas supplies from the United States is political considerations. For a German business, which, if replaced, will incur significant losses, this is a weak argument. And Merkel in this case expresses the interests of both political circles interested in sounding an independent voice in Germany and financial and industrial circles,” he added.
