First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Novikov commented in a conversation with RT a statement by the Head of the Eastern Committee of German Economy Michael Harms that the use of US sanctions against European companies that cooperate with Russian organizations is considered a violation of international law.
“This statement is very important and meaningful. Of course, it is not a big discovery. It is clear that the US sanctions, both against German companies, and the economic sanctions measures against Russia as a whole are in violation of the spirit of normal international relations, ”Novikov said.
The deputy also noted that not everyone in Europe today can afford to openly declare the wrong course of the policy of the United States.
“Europeans do not want to quarrel with the United States, they are in the wake of the political line they are pursuing. It’s all the more important that there are voices that advocate common sense and defend their own interests, against ignoring them in favor of Washington, ”he said.
Earlier, Harms said that the use of US sanctions against European companies that cooperate with Russian organizations is fundamentally considered a violation of international law.
He noted that “US sanctions, which have been introduced or prepared since April 2018, no longer show a clear political goal.”
