Elena Panina appreciated the US idea to introduce preventive sanctions against Russia

The proposal of American senators to impose sanctions against Russia for “possible interference in the elections” is an absurdity, unthinkable even for the Hammurabi code, said Elena Panina, a member of the State Duma’s international affairs committee.
Earlier, 11 US senators, including Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, wrote a letter to US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin urging him to “immediately impose sanctions on (Russian) private and government individuals and companies that intend to interfere in the 2020 US elections.” They refer to the conclusions of the US intelligence community that Russia may interfere in the upcoming presidential elections.

“A country that has proclaimed itself a model of legal culture is slipping into a barbaric prehistoric era.” We will punish them for what they may want to attack us, and we will do it in advance “- this is what the congressmen are essentially proposing . Such an absurdity would be unthinkable even in the Hammurabi code, “Panina told RIA Novosti.

According to the politician, such a proposal testifies to the continuing degradation of American political life.

The US elections will take place on November 3, with incumbent President Donald Trump running for a second term and will fight Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller spent two years investigating allegations of “Russian interference” in the 2016 US elections and charges of “Donald Trump’s collusion with Russia.” Mueller confirmed accusations of “interference” that were denied in the Kremlin, but found no evidence of “collusion”, the existence of which was denied both in Moscow and in Washington.
