Sergei Zheleznyak: “The actions of the leadership of the Square have so far not contributed to the normalization of Russian-Ukrainian relations”

“A US citizen, for some reason still representing the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, is trying to teach the UN Security Council how to behave in relation to Russia. The new head of the presidential administration of Ukraine allows himself to threaten our country with the “carrot and stick” policy, unreasonably demanding the release of violators of the Russian state border. The new head of Ukraine appeals to the world community for the strengthening of sanctions against Russia. It is sad that the Ukrainian authorities continue to exploit the topic of Russophobia in an attempt to please the West.

Obviously, one thing is that the actions of the leadership of the Square do not in any way contribute to the normalization of Russian-Ukrainian relations and do not raise the rating of the incoming president, ”said Sergey Zheleznyak, member of the State Duma’s Committee on International Affairs.

“Russia repeatedly diplomatically and restrainedly explained that, on the basis of international maritime law and on the basis of federal legislation, reasonably detained Ukrainian sailors, who, by order of the ex-president of Ukraine, intentionally violated the state border of the Russian Federation and entered our territorial waters with weapons. On this occasion in Ukraine, even a criminal case against Poroshenko. But the new authorities in Kiev, following the old tradition of Ukrainian politicians, are trying to attract the attention of Western patrons with aggressive anti-Russian rhetoric, paradoxically accusing our country of protecting our borders, ”the parliamentarian added.

“Dialogue with Ukraine is possible and even necessary, but only when the new authorities of this country are ready to conduct it constructively, reasonably and in a civilized manner,” the deputy is convinced.
