“Agreement by the Council of the European Union on amendments to the gas directive in a compromise version will greatly disappoint the United States. The efforts of the American gas magnates to disrupt the construction of the gas pipeline were once again in vain. The agreements adopted in the EU demonstrate the understanding of the Nordic Stream 2 project for Europe by the key countries in the region. This opinion was expressed by a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Sergey Zheleznyak.
“It is obvious that attempts to hinder the implementation of the Russian gas project by any means are initiated and financed in Washington, where Nord Stream II is viewed as a direct threat to US interests in Europe.
It is important that Germany as a key partner of the gas project has long been defined by the Nord Stream 2, which the country’s leadership considers to be exclusively an economic and very profitable project. Berlin has repeatedly said clearly that it does not intend to refuse to supply high-quality and inexpensive Russian fuel in favor of foreign political ambitions. Despite the fact that the adopted EU gas directive creates certain difficulties in filling the gas pipeline, this will not stop the implementation of a project that significantly increases Europe’s energy security, ”the politician noted.
