Threats of reprisals against media representatives who are trying to improve relations between Ukrainians and Russians and provide an opportunity to discuss the backlog of issues – a clear demonstration of a direct violation of freedom of speech and democracy, says State Duma Committee on International Affairs Sergey Zheleznyak.
Earlier, the Ukrainian TV channel NewsOne announced the cancellation of the teleconference with the channel “Russia 1” because of threats of physical violence.
“Threats of reprisals against media representatives who are trying to build bridges between Ukrainians and Russians, to give people the opportunity to discuss issues that have accumulated over five long years of tense relations, this is a clear demonstration of a direct violation of freedom of speech and democracy. Characteristically, the official Kiev prefers not to notice radical tricks it proves once again that it is no different from the previous authorities, who are also ready to dance to the tune of the nationalists, “said Zheleznyak, quoted by his press office.
According to him, the Western community, which “verbally stands for democratic institutions”, should have paid attention to the state of affairs in the country.
“(President of Ukraine Vladimir) Zelensky before the elections to the Parliament is ready to execute any numbers, just to get support votes, and now it does not matter what ideology his potential electorate adheres to,” the deputy added.
