Sergey Zheleznyak: “The EU’s reaction to the elections in Crimea and Sevastopol, integral subjects of the Russian Federation, has long been no surprise”

“The EU’s reaction to the elections in Crimea and Sevastopol, the integral subjects of the Russian Federation, which Brussels continues to call part of Ukraine, has long been no surprise. At the same time, non-recognition by the European Union of the election results on the Crimean peninsula will not affect stability in these Russian regions. ” This was stated by Sergey Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

According to the politician: “It does not matter whether the EU recognizes Crimea’s entry into Russia or not. The historical reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation was adopted at a popular referendum and enshrined in the Constitution of our state. The legitimacy of the regional authorities, elected by the people in the elections just held, is also beyond doubt. ”

“It is quite expected that the EU decided to recall its attitude to the fact of the reunification of Crimea with Russia in the context of the next elections. Thus, Brussels officials demonstrate that they do not intend to reduce pressure on Russia and will maintain the sanctions policy. A similar reaction will not be long in coming from Kiev, which is always in a hurry to indicate its devotion to the course of Russophobia, ”the parliamentarian added.
