“The incident with Alexei Navalny and the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 gas project have nothing to do with each other. The German authorities, who do not exclude the possibility of imposing sanctions, linking this with the investigation of the causes of what happened to the Russian oppositionist, must be consistent and not go about provocations aimed at disrupting the Russian-European energy project. ” This opinion was expressed by a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Sergei Zheleznyak.
The politician noted: “Berlin has repeatedly stood up to defend its own national interests, emphasizing the exclusively commercial nature of Nord Stream 2. At the same time, the United States and a number of countries in Europe, blindly fulfilling the will of Washington, including Poland, are making great efforts to make the gas project impossible. One gets the impression that Western Russophobes have found, and possibly even provoked themselves, a new reason for undermining Russian-European cooperation. It is worth recalling that, apart from conspiracy theories and formulations “with a high degree of probability”, none of the accusers has provided any evidence of Navalny’s intentional poisoning. Our country is interested in a thorough and impartial investigation of the incident. By rocking the situation around the state of health of Alexei Navalny, the opponents of our country are striving to once again present Russia as a strangler of freedoms, a stronghold of evil and aggression, in order to drag the Western world into another phase of anti-Russian hysteria. ”
Nord Stream 2 is a joint project between Russia and Europe, where sane politicians are well aware of the importance of this gas pipeline for ensuring the energy security of the countries of the region. We hope that common sense will prevail and the countries of Europe will not succumb to outright provocations that harm the interests of European citizens, ”the parliamentarian added.
