Sergey Zheleznyak: “Washington’s withdrawal from the UN is unlikely”

The bill to withdraw the country from the United Nations (UN) to the US Congress in the State Duma was called “an attempt to blackmail a key international organization,” a REGNUM correspondent reported January 11.

“Washington’s withdrawal from the UN is unlikely, especially in the current situation. At the same time, the method of ignoring collective responsibility for resolving the most important problems of the world has become the hallmark of US policy, ”said Sergei Zheleznyak (United Russia), member of the State Duma’s international affairs committee.

He pointed out that the American side at all international platforms is behaving equally irresponsibly, putting pressure on other participants in organizations, trying to turn respected institutions into a tool for manipulating public opinion and achieving their own selfish goals.

Alabama Congressman Mike Rogers suggested that the United States withdraw from the ranks of the United Nations – he submitted the corresponding bill to the Congress Foreign Affairs Committee. Among the reasons for the need to leave the UN, Rogers called criticism of Israel, “the greatest ally of the United States,” by the international organization, as well as “attacks on American ideals such as the second amendment” (it guarantees the right of citizens to keep and bear arms).
