Sergey Zheleznyak: “We are ready to grant citizenship to those who, with an open heart and good intentions, decided to become part of our strong state”

“The decision of the President of Russia to simplify the procedure for obtaining citizenship for residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine is a step of goodwill that will ensure the safety of a large number of Donbass residents who have expressed a desire to become Russians.” This opinion was expressed by a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Sergey Zheleznyak.

The politician noted: “By providing the possibility of obtaining citizenship and relevant rights, Russia does not violate any international norms, it should be clearly within the framework of federal legislation and interstate agreements. We are ready to grant citizenship to those who with open hearts and good intentions decided to become part of our strong state, built on the basis of the principles of democracy and respect for human rights.

The Ukrainian authorities still can not decide on the status of Donbass, ignore the Minsk Agreement and continue to fire on the territory of the DNR and the LC. Residents of Donbass are under constant pressure, living in conditions of incessant war and total blockade by Ukraine.

Russia throughout the time of the conflict in the Donbass has been providing humanitarian assistance to the residents of the South-East of Ukraine. The readiness of the leadership of our country in a simplified mode to grant citizenship to the residents of the DPR and the LPR is a humanitarian act that can make life easier for people who feel they are part of the Russian world. ”
