Svetlana Zhurova: Russian interest in Africa is a new priority in international relations

Russia is the guarantor of stability and compliance with the principles of international law for African countries, said First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova. This was reported by the press service of the faction “United Russia”.

The deputy spoke on behalf of the political association at the Russia-Africa forum, which takes place in Sochi on October 23-24. Zhurova noted the importance of developing Russian-African relations.

“Our interest in Africa is a new priority. Recently, our relations have been actively developing, we are conducting a major international dialogue with Africa. In many issues, African countries on international platforms support Russia, ”she stressed.

According to Zhurova, African countries cannot independently cope with a number of problems, such as crime, terrorism, piracy, illness, and the elimination of illiteracy. Russia plays a crucial role in their solution.

“For Russia, it is now important to develop our profitable trade and economic relations, and this is an investment that will bring income, economic growth,” the parliamentarian said.

Svetlana Zhurova also noted the importance of joint agreements on cooperation both in the military-technical and in the trade sphere, mechanical engineering, agriculture, and energy. According to her, Russia’s participation in such projects adds value to them, since “Africa is used to the predation of international players.”

Also, Russia has always made a great contribution to the training of personnel. In particular, more than 17 thousand students from Africa study at our universities.

“Helping Africans solve existing security problems will lead to the situation in the world as a whole becoming stable and predictable,” summed up Svetlana Zhurova.
