First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, a deputy from the United Russia faction Svetlana Zhurova commented on Duma TV the statement by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov about the Moscow proposal made by Tokyo to completely abandon visas.
“There are a number of countries with which we have canceled visas. It only improves tourist flows, and contacts become better, especially when it’s near-border areas, ”said Zhurova.
She recalled that Russia is close enough to Japan, so the border regions will perceive the abolition of visas positively.
Earlier, after the talks with his Japanese counterpart, Taro Kono, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, said that Moscow had offered Tokyo a visa-free regime and was looking forward to continuing discussions on this issue.
