Svetlana Zhurova: The transfer of the Olympics-2020 is a decision in the interests of athletes

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova approved the postponement of the 2020 Olympics. Games in Tokyo officially postponed to the year 2021.

– In this situation, the decision was made in the interests of athletes. Not everyone will be able to prepare for the Olympics under quarantine; in some countries they are not allowed into the halls. Where then should they be prepared? In countries where there is no strict quarantine, an advantage appears, so I understand those who proposed to transfer the Games. IOC does not need scandals. They hoped until the last time that the virus would not develop so quickly, – quotes Zhurova TASS.

On March 24, after a telephone conversation between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, chairman of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee, Yoshiro Mori and IOC head Thomas Bach, it was decided to postpone the Olympics to a later date. According to the official statement of the International Olympic Committee, it is stated that the Olympics will be held after 2020, but no later than the summer of 2021.
