Valentina Matvienko: “The Assembly of the Ministry of Railways in Russia will be the most representative”

The next 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held from 14 to 18 October in St. Petersburg, will be the most representative in recent years, this shows the absurdity of statements about Russia’s isolation, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko told journalists on Thursday.

“Preparation is taking place at all levels – both federal and city. We regularly hold meetings, analyze the progress of training, solve the problems that arise. Almost everything is ready in the Tauride Palace, where the meetings will be held. The opening of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will take place in a new modern exhibition center, there is also preparation. Therefore, I am sure that everything will be held at the highest level, “Matviyenko told reporters.

She hopes that this assembly will be the most representative in recent years.

“To date, 130 countries have already agreed to participate, delegations from 50 countries have passed the official registration procedure. In our opinion, this will be the most representative assembly of all that has taken place in recent years. The number of heads of parliaments already exceeds all those that were earlier. All this shows the absurdity of attempts to assert that Russia is in some kind of isolation, “the Federation Council speaker said.

According to her, Russia has given guarantees that there will be no restrictions for members of national delegations and all of them will be able to participate in the assembly. “Our position, which we expressed, is the inadmissibility of any sanctions against parliamentarians. They should conduct a dialogue, representing the interests of voters, “the speaker of the upper house said.

“By giving the opportunity to come to all comers, we create conditions for a free, open and unbiased dialogue of the parliaments of all states to express their point of view. The atmosphere of absolute democracy will be present at the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, “Matvienko said.
