Leonid Slutsky: OSCE PA actions contradict the basic principles of parliamentary diplomacy

Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky:

“The actions of the OSCE PA, as a result of which our delegation left the courtroom, contradict not only the rules of the Assembly, but also the basic principles of parliamentary diplomacy.

On Monday we met with the head of the OSCE PA George Tsereteli, and he demonstrated the will to dialogue with his Russian counterparts. And now this gentleman with one wave of his hand crossed out all his previous statements.

It is unfortunate that we again had to face openly anti-Russian attacks. But still this is not an excuse to leave the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. I believe that we must communicate our position in all possible ways and at all available international venues.

The protest of the Russian delegation to the OSCE PA against the violation of the Assembly’s rules is logical. Our deputies and senators, having left the session, reacted quite adequately. However, this does not mean in any way that we completely withdraw from the OSCE PA site. We will continue to use it to promote Russia’s foreign policy.

But in cases of continued gross violation of the OSCE PA regulations, we will also protest and react accordingly.

However, we continue to work and are in close contact with the majority of national delegations. Moreover, I am sure that the intensity around the Russian Federation has significantly decreased in the assembly, even despite the critical resolutions being adopted. But this is not the same antagonism as the one that was a year ago. We will definitely continue constructive interaction within the framework of the OSCE PA. But, at the same time, we will not allow anyone to cross the “red line”.
