Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky:
“Poroshenko’s statements about a“ unique chance ”for the return of Crimea to Ukraine are nonsense and agony. Unrealistic promises do not restore the confidence of the people, actually lost by the ex-president a year ago in the election. Crimea will never return back to Ukraine. The peninsula is part of the Russian Federation on the basis of the legitimate will of its citizens, this issue is closed once and for all. Point.
References to the deep crisis in Russia and the inability to secure financing for Crimea are also from the category of sick fantasies. The peninsula lives and develops rapidly, despite all kinds of blockades undertaken under Poroshenko.
I would say that starting in 2014, the world community has a “unique chance” to recognize the truth and the fair choice of Crimeans to reunite with Russia. And sooner or later they will undoubtedly and surely take advantage of them.”
