The head of the State Duma Committee for International Relations, Leonid Slutsky, believes that it is necessary to establish an interparliamentary dialogue between Russia and the United States and bring it “to a normal trajectory.”
“Of course, the absence of inter-parliamentary contacts is an absolutely disjointed situation. I hope that all the same we will overcome it and again we will bring relations between Russian and American parliamentarians to a normal trajectory. We work daily on the implementation of these plans with American partners, “he told journalists on Tuesday.
He added that the State Duma deputies are ready to meet with US senators during their planned visit to Moscow. “We know about the plans of a group of US Senators to come to Moscow. For their part, they also intend to meet with them, discuss Syria, European affairs, NATO, the security architecture in many regions, “Slutsky said.
At the same time, he expressed regret that there are no signals on the line of the House of Representatives of the US Congress to intensify cooperation. “I would like to establish more dense contacts in the line of the House of Representatives … But while they respond to our numerous appeals either by silence or they say that it is not the time yet,” the head of the committee noted.
At the same time, he expressed hope for meetings and negotiations with US congressmen on the margins of the summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Berlin. “In addition, there is close communication with many non-governmental foundations, universities … A powerful seminar will be held at the committee’s site, which we will organize together with the US and Canadian Institute. The more of us among them, the less of them among us, “concluded Slutsky.
Earlier it became known that a group of US senators could visit Moscow in early July.
