Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Leonid Slutsky:
“Cyril Vyshinsky and Elena Cherysheva today arrived in Strasbourg at the invitation of the Russian delegation and held a press conference on the sidelines of the PACE winter session. It was about the report of the British Briton George Foulkes, which is being considered today by the Assembly, “Threat to Freedom of the Media and the Safety of Journalists in Europe”. This report, and the draft resolution that accompanies it, contains a host of anti-Russian cliches and impossible requirements based on double standards and selective approaches. But, of course, there is not a word about political prisoners in Ukraine and the oppression of Sputnik in Estonia.
By the way, the speaker relied on the data of the so-called London Platform for the Safety of Journalists, created on a non-consensual basis and with the objections of the Russian Federation. Its main backbone is Western liberal NGOs, funded, inter alia, with funds from the British Foreign Ministry and the US State Department. Is it worth mentioning that a red thread through the entire report is the division of the CE member countries into “good” and “bad” in terms of freedom of speech and ensuring the safety of reporters. Naturally, both Ukraine and Estonia fall into the “good”, where journalists of objectionable media are strangled with financial leverage and imprisoned. That is precisely what Vyshinsky and Cherysheva spoke of under the emblem of the Council of Europe today. Huge respect for their courage and fidelity to professional duty.
P.S .: The Russian delegation will vote against the Foulkes report and intends to speak from the PACE rostrum about the situation around Sputnik and the oppression of journalists in Ukraine. ”
