Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs:
“Articles in the Associated Press and the New York Times accusing Russia of allegedly spreading misinformation about the pandemic in order to discredit the American authorities are another fake and stuffing before the elections of the 46th president of the United States in November. Both parties, including through the media, play the “external card”. The Republicans have made China responsible for the failure of the national health care system, the Democrats continue to stubbornly continue to cultivate myths about Russian interference in the internal political processes of the United States. Both are wishful thinking in order to justify their own miscalculations and defeats, as well as to absolve themselves of responsibility for the unfolding crisis in the country.
Naturally, all these publications are sheer nonsense. On the contrary, Russia provided maximum assistance during the fight against coronavirus to foreign countries, including the United States. We are not engaged in “disinformation”. Our American partners have succeeded much more in this, declaring absolutely groundlessly to the whole world about the mythical “Russian threat”.
