Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky:
“According to the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan: biased approaches and double standards of European observers again amaze. Traditionally, the OSCE / ODIHR has sharply criticized the tabulation process. According to the head of the mission, Ukrainian MP Arthur Gerasimov, the conditions for participation were allegedly created, but the conditions for victory were not created.
But the conditions for their victory must be created by the candidates themselves, gaining the trust of their voters. The New Azerbaijan Party, led by President Ilham Heydarovich Aliyev, undoubtedly enjoys great authority among the population, which reflects the preliminary results of the vote. The few violations, which, incidentally, are already promptly investigated by the CEC of the republic, can in no way affect the legitimacy of the elections. Accusations of opacity and undemocracy – just, sorry for the non-parliamentary, “far-fetched.”
The early elections to the Milli Majlis were competitive, completely open, and were held in full accordance with democratically selective standards. This was recorded by CIS observers, among whom were deputies of the State Duma. I want to congratulate the people of Azerbaijan and express hope for fruitful interparliamentary cooperation. ”
