Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs:
“The statements of the representative of the FRG government about“ inappropriate and unjustified ”retaliatory sanctions by Russia in connection with the incident around Navalny are a manifestation of political hypocrisy. It would have been worth talking about any inappropriateness and unjustification when Berlin initiated this whole performance about the alleged poisoning of a blogger. At the same time, one should not forget that the unfounded accusations of Germany (the Russian side never received substantive answers from the FRG) became the reason for absolutely illegal European sanctions against Russia.
The principle of reciprocity and mirroring in diplomacy has not been canceled. Such a reaction of the official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers looks somewhat strange, as well as his statements about the transfer of the “Russian problem” to bilateral relations. Russia does not create problems for anyone – neither in the world, nor in the framework of interstate cooperation. We are open to dialogue, but we cannot leave unfriendly actions unanswered, especially those based on highly likely arguments.”
