Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the 7th State Duma Committee on International Affairs, has not yet received a visa to the United States, where he was supposed to go in accordance with the order of the President of the Russian Federation as part of the Russian delegation to participate in the UN General Assembly. The main part of the delegation leaves for New York on September 21 in the morning.
“I am the only one of the entire Russian delegation to have not received a visa at the moment. The likelihood that it will be given just before departure is extremely small. The US Embassy does not explain the reasons for the delay.
It is quite possible that this is due to the fact that my last name is on the American “black lists”, like the names of many other Russian politicians. However, the sanctions imposed bypassing the UN do not give the United States the right to block the entry of Russian officials to meetings of the largest international organization. This is a failure on the part of the United States to fulfill its obligations as the host country of the UN headquarters, a new round of “visa wars”.
In addition, this is not the first case of Washington’s abuse of visa restrictions, which once again makes one think about whether the UN should really continue to locate its headquarters in New York, ”L. Slutsky said.
