Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky:
“WSJ’s publications on possible US anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the situation on the oil market are destructive in nature since they are aimed solely at escalating panic.
But if we assume that such ideas are really circulating in Washington circles (and we recently heard about similar proposals by a number of American senators), then they are doubly destructive. At the same time, “double standards” are used again: we don’t hear any initiatives regarding any restrictions on Saudi Arabia.
All this suggests that Washington acts selfishly and cynically. Even with the pandemic storming the world markets, the US is not going to slow down the appetites of its own hegemony and is ready to use any excuse for unfair competition, as well as containing Russia.”
