Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Committeeon International Affairs:
“The cancellation of the visit of Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl to Russia should not be viewed as a sign of deterioration of relations between our countries. Not yet, anyway.
We have long been acquainted with Mrs. Kneissl, she is a professional of the highest qualification. Unprecedented pressure is put on her, especially after July 1, when Austria has assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
I think that we should not talk about cancellation, but about postponing of the visit. Karin Kneissl is one of the few European politicians who fully understand the need for dialogue with Russia.
Let me remind you that in early December the speaker of the National Council of the Austrian ParliamentWolfgang Sobotkais to visit Moscow. The cancellation of the visit of Mrs. Kneissl is unlikely to affect his decision to come to Russia”.
