Leonid Slutsky commented on Iran’s withdrawal from the JCPOA

Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Leonid Slutsky:

“Iran has finally withdrawn from the nuclear deal. The assassination of General Suleimani by US air strikes was the last straw.

This is Tehran’s direct response to the consistent escalation of the situation and provocative pressure from Washington. Thus, the result of many years of diplomatic efforts by the leading world powers to conclude a JCPO was nullified by the same American missile in the vicinity of Baghdad airport.

Russia has always advocated the implementation of the agreement by all its parties. Its scrapping causes great regret. Iran fully complied with all its obligations up to the US unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA, and then phased them out step by step based on the actions and steps of the European partners to preserve the “nuclear deal.” However, the latter circumstances, obviously, “filled the cup”.

So far, cautious optimism is inspired by the fact that Iran does not refuse to cooperate with the IAEA. I am sure that the dialogue with Tehran regarding its nuclear program must be continued.”
