Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs:
The Charter of Inter-Parliamentary Commission for Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the State Duma of the Russian Federation was signed.
In essence, this document has consolidated the format of our relations that have been developing successfully in the recent years. It is enough to recall that the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea were the initiators of the Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments. Together we have accomplished a long way from the idea to the actual instrument of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
At the meeting with Moon Hee-Sang we talked a lot about the adoption of the final document of the 3rd Meeting of Speakers that, I am sure, will become a position paper for the years ahead.
Another example of close cooperation at the parliamentary level is Turkey. Tonight, a communique will be signed following the meeting of the Chairman of the Grand National Assembly Binali Yildirim and the Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin. And soon we will conclude an agreement on inter-parliamentary cooperation.
By creating joint high-level commissions with parliaments that are significant for us (significant in terms of the volume of inter-parliamentary ties), we are on the right path. Such commissions lay down a qualitatively new format of cooperation.
