The Russian delegation expects that at the upcoming winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, attempts to challenge its authority will be overcome by a majority. This was stated to reporters by the head of the Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Leonid Slutsky.
“We are developing good relations with a number of national delegations. At the same time, the powers of our delegation will most likely be disputed by the so-called Baltic Plus group. We hope that we can overcome these attempts by a significant margin, ”he said.
The deputy noted that Russia will propose the candidacy of Peter Tolstoy for the post of vice-speaker of the Assembly. “We are convinced that the combination of the positions of the head of the delegation and the vice speaker will be a good advantage. Now we have a great chance to get this position for our delegation, ”he added.
The Baltic Plus group was created on the initiative of the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Elizaveta Yasko. It also included Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Georgia.
