Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs:
“Today’s 139th IPU Assembly made a historic collegial decision on the inadmissibility of sanctions against parliamentarians. President of the IPU Gabriela Kuevas Barron was mandated to speak at all external international platforms, including the United Nations, on the inadmissibility of sanctions against parliamentarians, since this contradicts the very nature of parliamentarism.
Using the decision of the oldest and largest inter-parliamentary organization on the planet, we will further advance our position that all sanctions announced earlier against Russian deputies and senators in Washington, Brussels and other world capitals should be immediately lifted.
The chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, who was re-elected Vice-President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, played an important role in the decision-making.”
