Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, MP Leonid Slutsky:
“The foreign policy part of the President’s Address sets absolutely clearly all the priorities of the Russian Federation on the world stage. I’d like to hope that our, as I call them, “strategic friends” will hear and adequately perceive it. Russia has never violated its international or bilateral obligations and has always been honest with its foreign partners. Unlike the United States, as Vladimir Putin indicated today.
Our country is not looking for confrontation; we are open to cooperation and we are not at all a “world evil”, as they are trying to present in the West today. But we will firmly defend our interests and security. And this line, as the President of Russia said, is exclusively defensive in nature. It is high time Washington has to think and elementary to “count” before making decisions that threaten stability and world peace”.
