French MP calls on EU to impose sanctions against Ukraine for non-compliance with Minsk-2

Member of the National Assembly of France, president of the association “Franco-Russian Dialogue” Thierry Mariani called on the European Union to impose sanctions against Ukraine for non-compliance with the Minsk agreements.

“If we are talking about the need to take some kind of sanctions, then they need to be taken with respect to Ukraine, which does not comply with the provisions of the Minsk agreements,” RIA Novosti quotes his words.

The parliamentarian said that half a year ago he was in Donetsk to see what measures Kiev had taken, however, he stated that “nothing Ukraine had done was done by Ukraine .”

“Firstly, it is written there that autonomy should be introduced for the eastern part of the territory of Ukraine – the Verkhovna Rada has not yet voted, has not even voted on any bill in this direction. Secondly, the Minsk agreements envisage a political amnesty for the residents of Donetsk and the adoption of a new electoral law — not on any of these points did the Rada hold a vote, ”said Mariani.

Since the provisions of “Minsk-2” are not being fulfilled, it is logical that “sanctions should be imposed on Ukraine, since this is its direct responsibility,” the politician concluded. Mariani reminded that the EU imposes sanctions only on Russia, referring to the fact that it does not fulfill the stipulated conditions.

Moscow has repeatedly stressed that the Russian Federation is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine, and therefore cannot implement the Minsk agreements, but acts as one of their guarantors.
