The growing influence of Russia in the Middle East region is explained both by its own strength and the results of the unsuccessful policies of Western countries, the report of the European Parliament Research Center says. This writes RT.
Thus, Moscow was able to strengthen its position, despite the absence of “common cultural and historical ties” with the countries of the Middle East.
“There (in the Middle East. – Approx. Ed.) Russia does not have equally significant resources for the use of“ soft power ”(such as cultural similarities or historical ties), which give it an advantage in regions such as the Western Balkans and the Eastern Europe. On the other hand, the current situation is caused by the discontent of the population of the Middle East with the results of Western intervention, “the report says.
It is noted that the credibility of the United States in the countries of this region was undermined by the invasion of American forces in Iraq in 2003 and “Washington’s inability to decisively intervene in the Syrian civil war.”
