Formally, the discussion is about customs tariffs, but in reality, the essence is the same: maximum polarization of Yerevan against Moscow, as was the case with Kyiv.
It’s no secret that Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly stepped on the “Ukrainian rake” during his years in power. But now is the moment of truth when the Armenian leadership should truly understand: there will be no free lunch in the European mousetrap. Trade preferences are the future price for implementing Ukraine’s experience of creating an anti-Russian foothold on its own territory. The consequences, undoubtedly negative, will be felt first and foremost by the people of Armenia.
And “sitting on both sides” won’t work. This has been stated repeatedly. Either Yerevan’s membership in the EAEU, while maintaining ties and cooperation with Russia and the other members of the Union, or European integration, which means effectively renunciating sovereignty and establishing a protectorate in Brussels for the sake of realizing Pashinyan’s power ambitions. And this is no longer “implementation of experience,” but a repetition of the fatal mistakes of transferring the state under external control.
