Alexey Chepa: Consequences of new sanctions package will hit Britain, not Russia

The UK’s sanctions policy is a mistaken tactic that the West used in the hopes of destroying the Russian economy, but in the end only strengthened it. This was stated by the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Alexey Chepa in an interview with Lenta.ru.
This is how Chepa commented on London’s preparation of the largest package of sanctions since the beginning of the special military operation (SMO). According to the deputy, Western countries planned to cause great damage to the Russian economy, to destabilize the situation inside the country, but this failed.

“The sanctions war forced us to restructure the economy, which had a positive effect on us, but had a negative impact on European countries,” Chepa said.

The new package of sanctions is another mistake by some politicians, which has a very negative impact on the economic development of their countries. Chepa added that the administration of US President Donald Trump also openly talks about the large losses from sanctions.

On February 23, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said he was preparing to announce the largest package of sanctions against Russia since the start of the special operation. According to him, the new restrictions are timed to coincide with the third anniversary of the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, Lammy added that it was time to “tighten the screws on Putin’s Russia.” In turn, the head of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy, Alexei Pushkov, said that the European Union had staged a “mutiny on an American ship” by introducing new anti-Russian sanctions. With his actions, he showed that the US President’s policy on the Ukrainian issue is unimportant.
