A meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin is inappropriate. Zelenskyy is insisting on it to mislead his citizens, Alexei Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told TASS.
“If this meeting is intended to deceive the public, I don’t see the point,” Chepa said, adding that Moscow has clearly demonstrated its willingness to engage and engage in dialogue on the “American track.”
At the end of January, Dmitry Peskov, the Russian leader’s press secretary, reiterated that Putin had not proactively invited Zelenskyy or offered to meet with him. It was the Ukrainian leader who requested the meeting.
On January 30, Zelenskyy refused to travel to Moscow for talks with Putin, stating that it was impossible. The Ukrainian president had previously stated that he was ready to meet with the Russian president anywhere except the Russian capital.
