Germany’s decision to blame Russia for the drone incident in Leipzig is a provocation, Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told Gazeta.Ru.
“These accusations look like a blatant provocation. A provocation, executed very crudely and poorly. This is an attempt to fan the flames of conflict amid German dissatisfaction with government policy,” the deputy explained.
He believes that this tactic of “distracting” the public is common among many European governments. As soon as public discontent grows, Chepa asserts, they unleash yet another such provocation in the media to divert attention to the “bad Russians.”
“We in Russia have become accustomed to such moves. However, this doesn’t mean we will leave the provocation unanswered. The response will be symmetrical. After all, the closure of a consulate and new sanctions are not something that can be left unanswered,” the deputy concluded.
