The US Congress laid down sanctions on the Russian gas pipelines Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream in the 2020 defense budget. The State Duma regarded this as an unfair method of competition.
According to a document posted on the website of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, sanctions against Russian gas pipelines serve to “ensure Europe’s energy security.” The same document prohibits military cooperation with the Russian Federation “in order to expand counteraction to the malicious activities of Russia, China and other countries.”
“American foreign policy is always oriented towards achieving the economic goals of its state. And, as you know, Americans dream of supplying Europe with their liquefied natural gas, and therefore in every way impede the expansion of Russian gas supplies to Europe, because they consider it the main competitor to their LNG.
And the information persecution of Russia in Europe, especially in the eastern one, is aimed at creating a negative image of our country and forcing Europeans to refuse to cooperate with us. Therefore, unfortunately, Americans use such unfair competition methods against Russia. But in fact, there is no factual background for introducing such restrictions, ”Anton Morozov, a member of the Duma’s international affairs committee, said in a comment to the Federal News Agency.
Explaining why the US is imposing sanctions on Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream, the parliamentarian noted that the Americans are trying to present the construction of Russian gas pipelines as a kind of threat.
“They are trying to expose Russian gas pipelines almost as a manifestation of energy terrorism. Americans believe that if Russia has some economic influence, it will threaten America’s national interests in Europe. Therefore, they present this opposition in the line of defense, although, of course, this is mainly a financial and economic background.
And it’s interesting here that the funds that the United States intends to raise due to sanctions against Russian gas pipelines will go to the US defense budget. The United States knows how to monetize its foreign policy and expects to return the money that they will spend on these sanctions articles by supplying its LNG to Europe, ”said Anton Morozov.
