The failure of the impeachment of US President Donald Trump will certainly strengthen his position in the election campaign for the presidency, Anton Morozov, member of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, told Izvestia.
The day before, on February 5, the Senate acquitted Trump in the impeachment case under two articles of the prosecution in the process.
“Essentially, this decision shows that all the allegations against Trump turned out to be untenable. This will cool the ardor of his opponents, ”MP Morozov said.
At the same time, the current owner of the White House is pursuing a reckless foreign policy, including with regard to Russia, the parliamentarian said. As an example, he cited Trump’s recent decision to liquidate Iranian General Kassem Suleymani.
“The Senate should limit the powers of the president so that more decisions are made by the collegial representative body. I think that the US legislative branch will move in this direction, ”Morozov emphasized.
At the same time, Trump still maintains a strong domestic political position, since he managed to push the US economic development off the ground and find ways to solve many social problems, the deputy concluded.
