Anton Morozov: “The head of European diplomacy is forced to maneuver between the instructions of the United States and the interests of Europe”

In an interview with Politika Segodnya, a member of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, Anton Morozov (LDPR), commented on the contradictory assessments of the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, on the results of his own visit to Moscow.

“Apparently, the head of the European Union’s foreign policy department is forced to make, shall we say, balanced statements so as not to upset his overseas partners,” Morozov said.

According to Anton Morozov, recently Brussels diplomacy has to maneuver in every possible way between the interests of Europe and the United States. Washington, in turn, constantly reminds the EU of its political interests in relation to Russia.

“The United States has a significant impact on European diplomacy and, unfortunately, is guiding its European colleagues towards confrontation with Russia, including on Nord Stream 2, on Alexei Navalny, and so on. By and large, these are echoes of geopolitical competition, because it is unprofitable for America for Europe to get closer to Russia, ”the source said.

However, the expert expressed confidence that US pressure would hardly be able to break the constructive dialogue between the EU and Moscow.

“We shouldn’t worry too much about this, since we are part of Europe. It is obvious that, despite all our opposition, our cooperation will develop. I hope that both our diplomacy and European diplomacy will make significant efforts towards this, ”summed up Morozov.
