Dmitry Belik: agreements on military bases in Syria will remain in place

The current agreements on two key Russian military bases in Syria will remain in effect. State Duma deputy Dmitry Belik shared this opinion on the “Live” program on our TV channel. He emphasized the importance of the military bases in Khmeimim and Tarusa, which are Russia’s gateway to the Mediterranean.

“These bases are the gateway to the Mediterranean, to Africa, to other countries, to Latin America. Let’s start with the legal side: if Syria exists as a country today, it exists de jure. The agreements we had on Tartus and Khmeimim are still in effect, no one has broken them. That is, here, probably, we need such non-public diplomacy, where there will be certain guarantees that there will be no attempts to break these agreements from the new government, the so-called “moderate opposition,” no matter what you can call them, although they hang people there, cut off their heads – but that’s a separate story. And today, the Western community does not see this. “I believe that everyone recognizes the new moderate opposition, as they like to call it in the West,” noted Russian State Duma deputy Dmitry Belik.
