State Duma deputy from Sevastopol and member of the International Affairs Committee Dmitry Belik described statements about a possible direct confrontation between Russia and the United States as “scare stories” that are being deliberately spread.
Earlier, the head of the US Northern Command, General Gregory Guillot, expressed the opinion that given the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, there are several options in which the conflict could escalate into an open confrontation between the two powers (Russia and the United States).
According to Belik, the US military is using dire forecasts about the Russian-Chinese threat to intimidate US President Donald Trump, since stable peace often leads to a reduction in military orders. He noted that the US military budget is currently inflated to record levels, and military commanders fear that their “golden era” may be over (RIA Novosti reports).
The deputy stressed that proxy wars involving American forces are accompanied by significant financial investments, which brings benefits to the generals that they are not willing to give up
Earlier, the State Department described the expected meeting in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine as a “critical opportunity” for achieving peace.
