French President Emmanuel Macron is trying to sit on two chairs regarding the conflict in Ukraine, said Dmitry Belik, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Izvestia reports on December 5.
According to him, Macron’s statements about the desire to bring Kyiv and Moscow to the negotiating table for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine “sharply contrast” with his own orders to supply weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The continued supply of weapons to Kyiv does not fit with the maxims that negotiations are “the only way to find a solution to the situation around Ukraine” and that Macron allegedly “does not see a military option” for resolving the conflict, Belik emphasized.
He explained that the revitalization of the rhetoric about the negotiations correlates with the “onset of cold weather” and the intensification of the energy crisis. But Moscow will not be misled by such talk, the deputy noted. Russia “continues to systematically carry out the tasks of the special operation,” he added.
