The United States “hacked” Libyan statehood and is now trying to show that they are not the cause of the disasters that the Libyan people are experiencing, Dmitry Novikov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the US State Department praised Malta for intercepting a batch of Libyan currency with a face value of $ 1.1 billion and stated that the currency was fake and was allegedly printed on the Goznak Russian state printing house.
“Only with the help of such information campaigns can we try to replace in the minds of millions of people who are the source of evil and the cause of the calamities that the Libyan people are experiencing today. And the source of these calamities is well known: the United States broke into the statehood of this country and physically destroyed the Libyan leadership led by Gaddafi and, of course, everything that happened then in Libya was of the nature of a frank crime of international character and cynical interference in the affairs of an independent free state, “Novikov said.
The deputy stressed that when the political trend of increasing confrontation has already been set, and such a political trend has been set by the first persons and the entire US political establishment, the special services and “information tools” take part in the corresponding confrontational policy and each has its own role in this situation.
“Everything that is now being formed around the designated topic is very reminiscent of a well-developed special operation, which is being implemented in accordance with a very specific order, the order is well known,” said Novikov.
He said that anti-Russian rhetoric was fueled by the US “gradually and constantly.”
Novikov stressed that today Libya has still not been able to overcome the problems caused by US intervention.
“Russia’s position is well known … Those who are on the territory of Libya participate in the political process, represent large or visible groups of citizens, they, of course, should participate in the dialogue, which is why Russia has relations with Tripoli and has relations with the general ( LNA Commander Khalifa – ed.) Haftar, and we do it all precisely on the basis of considerations of achieving peace, civil accord and Libya’s way out of the crisis situation it’s in, “Novikov emphasized.
The deputy explained that to normalize the situation in Libya, all participants in the global political process should help Libya restore its statehood.
After the overthrow and assassination of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya virtually ceased to function as a single state. Dual power reigns in the country now. The parliament elected by the people sits in the east, and in the west, in the capital Tripoli, the Government of National Accord, led by Fayez Sarraj, rules with the support of the UN and the European Union. The authorities of the eastern part of the country operate independently of Tripoli and cooperate with the Libyan National Army, led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar, who has not stopped trying to capture Tripoli since April 2019.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia does not take any side in the Libyan conflict and puts the Libyan interests at the forefront. He noted that the goal of Moscow is to restore peace and security throughout Libya. In addition, the press secretary of the head of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that there are no Russian troops in Libya, and noted that the only possible solution to this country is through political and diplomatic communication between all parties to the conflict. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that further prolongation of the systemic crisis in Libya threatens disastrous consequences.
