The meeting of Russia, China, the United States, France and Germany within the framework of the UN Security Council is needed to increase the authority of this platform, designed to fight global evil, told the Parliamentary newspaper the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Dmitry Novikov.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested holding a joint meeting with the heads of countries that are permanent members of the UN Security Council – China, the USA, France and the UK. In his opinion, this is necessary for rallying before the threats of chauvinism, racism, anti-Semitism and other manifestations of hatred.
“The world situation is becoming so critical, the degree of tension between individual countries, groups of countries and military blocs is so high that if no measures are taken, more and more new wars and armed conflicts will unleash on the planet,” said Dmitry Novikov.
According to him, the United Nations and the Security Council created on its site is a very important platform that ensures dialogue and interaction of all countries. The UN plays the role of a deterrent in a situation of increasing confrontation between countries, Novikov said.
At the same time, other military-political blocs are constantly trying to take away part of the function from the UN. For example, NATO regularly tries to do this, the parliamentarian added.
“Accordingly, so that countries can continue to cooperate on the UN platform, it is necessary to maintain and increase its authority. Consultations in the UN Security Council could play a constructive role, ”he said.
In his opinion, there are no obstacles for representatives of the five named countries to come together to discuss problems. Moreover, many world processes depend on these states.
“China is increasingly approaching the status of the world’s first economy in many ways. The USA is the richest and most influential state. Russia maintains its military potential and enjoys international authority, taking a constructive position on many issues. England and France play a big role in the framework of the European Union and NATO, a lot depends on their position in Europe, ”the deputy said, explaining the importance of the dialogue of these five states.
