Dmitry Novikov commenting on the decision taken by Mahmoud Abbas concerning suspension of the treaty arrangements between Palestine and Israel

“As reported, Israel refuses from the implementation of a series of the UN decisions with regard to Palestine. Therefore, the suspension measures are forced and have to be considered as such. However, at the same time, the situation highlights the fact that Palestinian people advocate for their own interests through the means that are available in currents political conditions” – Novikov argues.

According to the deputy, the relationship between the respective states has been relatively strained, experiencing conflict escalation at times.
“Nevertheless, I believe that the issue is hardly able to result in any considerable and radical consequences” – the deputy concluded.

Earlier, President Abbas had declared the suspension of all peace treaties with Israel. He had also added that the action is the reciprocal measure, following from the Israeli demolishment of ten Palestinian buildings located in East Jerusalem.
