The First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Dmitry Novikov (Communist Party) commented on an article by Russian President Vladimir Putin on World War II, including noting the importance of holding a UNSC five nuclear five summit and emphasizing that it’s better when politicians and statesmen speak. rather than “murder weapons.”
Putin’s article says that the UN Security Council’s “nuclear five” summit would be useful for discussing many of the world’s most important issues, and that other countries supported Moscow’s initiative to hold such a meeting. Putin is confident that such a meeting will help find answers to modern challenges and threats.
“It’s always better when politicians and statesmen speak, rather than“ say ”the instruments of murder and annihilation of each other in the course of hostilities. Therefore, it is very important today to create a new system against the backdrop of the“ spreading ”of the old international security system, but this cannot be achieved, not achieved without intensifying the negotiation process, those who are today the main players in the international arena, those who are today economic, social, “opinion leaders,” so to speak, legislators of one or another political course. Of course, dialogue is simply necessary, ”he said. Novikov RIA Novosti.
He noted the importance of the Russian Federation taking the initiative to find a way out of the difficult international situation in which the world today finds itself.
“And I must say that in recent years this policy of Washington, which is associated with withdrawal from a number of international treaties, creates an extremely difficult, alarming situation. The issues of nuclear deterrence are now called into question, therefore the world is becoming less secure, threats of new conflicts using modern types of weapons are exacerbating, “said Novikov.
He noted that it is necessary to “take measures” so that these potential threats do not become a reality and use all diplomatic mechanisms, all “negotiation levers” in order to “block” such scenarios in advance, so the idea of the summit can only be supported.
In the article, Putin also expresses the view that calls to abolish the veto in the UN Security Council and deprive permanent members of special opportunities are irresponsible.
“It is clear that the UN’s construction must be preserved as a whole in the form in which it exists, and the idea of preserving the veto right for members of the Security Council is also absolutely correct. Practice has shown that thanks to this veto right it was possible to balance the international situation in such a way that the most serious interests are taken into account and it is impossible to force one of the world powers on the rest of the world. So, as for the veto right in the assessment of the President of the Russian Federation, here, of course, you have to agree, “said Novikov.
He emphasized that the UN construction has a very important function, there is no other international platform that could replace the UN. The UN played a “very constructive” role in building the entire system of international relations in the second half of the last century and continues to play an important political role today.
In the article, Putin also called on all countries to open access to previously unknown documents about the war and the pre-war period.
“I myself am a historian by training, I can say that expanding access of historians to archives always helps professionals, specialists work, and as a politician I can say that I am convinced that access to archival materials will not complicate the task of fighting those who today oppose falsification stories behind which there is an attempt to denigrate the role of the Soviet Union, “said Novikov.
He expressed confidence that in the archival materials it is impossible to find “nothing” that would discredit the position of the USSR, since this position was “very well verified” and was guided strictly by national interests, “and not by considerations of an aggressive policy.”
